Client Work Assignment

All students should complete this assignment.

Select a client for for your homework (a volunteer). Turn in a document that outlines the info below OR ask me to set up a Zoom call so I may observe your client visit OR video yourself with your client at her first visit.

If you choose the written document: You do not need to follow a specific format in your document. Your way of keeping client notes may be different than mine. Stay organized and do it the way that works for you.

Remember, your client’s information is confidential. Keep it under lock and key the same way you would medical information. Your client needs to know that you are not sharing or being careless with her information. Hard copy documents should be locked up. Electronic documents should be secured with passwords.

Here are things I want to see from you – either in written format or discussed with me via Zoom or video. If you send me a video or Zoom of our client visit, that’s great, but I may also need to see you ‘off camera’ from your client so we can talk about the following items (or you can write these into a document):

1) Pre-assessment results for your client. Tell me what you learned about her in the pre-assessment, such as why she needs yoga therapy and anything else you found out.

2) Assessment – What assessments did you perform? Why did you choose those? (These could be chakra assessments, lifestyle assessments, such as finding out what she does for a living, her sleeping/eating habits, etc. or physical assessments. You could even use other assessments we discussed that you may have learned outside of this class, such as Ayurvedic assessments.)
Note: Don’t over-assess. You learned a lot of assessments because they are needed in different scenarios, but don’t feel compelled to do too many assessments at once. A doctor learns how to give many tests, but he would not give those to each patient.

3) What were the findings of the assessments?

4) Based on those findings, what plan of action will you offer your client? List all tools you will initially offer and tell me WHY you are slecting those tools. I am asking you to give me details because you’ll have to give your real client details. For example, please don’t say, “I gave her an EFT script”; instead, give me a copy of the script you offered her. Don’t say, “I gave her some asana to help with tight hips” but tell me which specific asanas you recommended. Don’t say, “I gave her pranayama and meditation” but let me know which ones you specifically asked her to perform and share any documents you gave her to help her learn the pranayama and meditation. This is not to burden you with extra work but to make sure you are able to create a thorough therapy plan.

5) When do you plan to follow up with your client? What do you think you should do to prepare for the 2nd visit?

6) Are there any questions or concerns?

7) What did you learn or observe in this practice?

8) Is there anything else you need from me, to help you be a better yoga therapist?
