RYT300 Intensive YT ASSIGNMENT
All remote students should complete this Lesson.
Please review the book requirements here (find “Required Readings” FAQ)
In your book list, the books below were recommended (but don’t worry…you don’t have to have any of these books…keep reading!)
You’ll be given an assignment (below) to research and present a topic on yoga therapy. There are many good resources where you might find info. I’ve listed a few good ones below, but you could choose online articles or any other resources (these books are NOT required to be purchased).
You don’t even need a resource if there is something you already teach that you think your fellow RYT students would love to learn from you. You could use material you’ve already learned in this course! Or, maybe you already teach a group of seniors or use chakra information in a really cool way. That’s great…just share what you are excited about. When you present or teach others, you learn new things, too, as you are required to put a lot of thought into it!
- Yoga as Medicine by Timothy McCall
- Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Therapy: Bringing the Body into Treatment by David Emerson
- Yoga Therapy: Foundations, Methods, and Practices for Common Ailments by Mark Stephens
- Yoga Therapy & Integrative Medicine: Where Ancient Science Meets Modern Medicine by Larry Payne
Now, it’s time to break out one more of these OR a resource of your choosing. Again, this could be your existing knowledge/experience or other resources you have on hand. You are not required to make any book purchases.
Assignment
Select a topic that relates to Yoga Therapy (YT). Examples: YT for Cancer Patients, YT in Western Medicine, Incorporating Sound Therapy into YT, YT for PTSD, YT for Clients in Substance Recovery, YT for Stress, YT for Hip Labral Tears…..all choices are valid.
Once you have selected your topic you’ll create a presentation. If you can’t think of a topic, start reading some of the books or topics on the Google drive (see Other Therapy Conditions Lesson) and maybe it’ll spark an idea.
If you are in the live class, you’ll present this to your peers.
Remote students: Video your presentation and upload it OR if you prefer to Zoom, let me know. I’ll see if some other students would be interested in joining to watch you present.
This presentation is for your fellow RYT300 students, so target that audience.
How long should it be? 30-90 minutes. Longer isn’t necessarily better. It depends on what you are doing as to how long you need.
What should it contain? You can include a discussion, lecture, visual aids and practices such as pranayama, meditation, asana, sound therapy, color therapy, aromatherapy, tapping, affirmations, etc.
If you would like to Zoom with your fellow students, please let us know ahead of time if we will need to have any specific items to participate. For example, if you use aromatherapy in your presentation, you might need to ask us ahead of time to have a bottle of essential oils. If we were doing a color meditation, you might put the color object on the screen for us, or you might ask us to have our own colored objects (such as squares of colored paper or cloth).
Please don’t make this assignment harder than it needs to be. There is not a right or wrong way to do this. It’s simply you sharing with your fellow students something within yoga therapy that you are passionate about. It could be a class you lead that incorporates a chakra theme or the use of essential oils or an audio/video presentation. It could be a simple class where you take us through some movements that strengthen the shoulders or core. Don’t overthink it or try to impress us. Just share something from your heart that you are passionate about and it will be more than enough!
