RYT300 Intensive Trail Guide Anatomy
In the Hips, Shoulder and Core Course and Healthy Back courses, you’ll find several anatomy video clips. Please be sure you review those when you work through those courses. Also, review the links below. As you go through each video, if you can use your own body or that of a partner to palpate, it might make learning easier. If this is not possible, try to visualize what you might feel by watching the videos and use the ACTIVITY listed below to enhance learning.
Another very helpful tool for learning anatomy is to view it from a kinesiology standpoint. In other words, put movement to the muscles.
ACTIVITY: After watching a video, look in your Trail Guides reference materials to find the movements the given muscle performs. Then, think about what yoga poses or therapy exercises we do that strengthens (contracts) and stretches that muscle and perform it as you think about the muscle, trying to feel the action. If you need help, refer to your RYT200 books or other anatomy materials and find poses that contract and stretch these muscles. Ray Long books are especially great resources. Leslie Kaminoff’s book is also excellent. Do this activity for each Lesson Topic in this Lesson.
In addition to the individual muscles offered in the courses listed above (Hips, Shoulders and Core and Healthy Back) please make sure you’ve reviewed:
Muscle Terms
Anatomy Intro
Anatomy and Muscle Synergists
After you’ve reviewed the content above, please also review the other links in this Lesson. They are listed as separate Lesson Topics to allow you to find videos easier and to facilitate watching a few at a time and marking them complete instead of having so many on one page.
As mentioned in the Hips, Shoulders and Core and Healthy Back materials, it is helpful to practice palpating if possible. Here’s a video that provides tips on this skillset. (password RYT300)
