Back to Course

All remote students should complete this Lesson. This is both physical movement and mind/body awareness. These exercises are a great way to introduce meditation or serve as moving meditations. There is nothing to turn in but these explorations are helpful to many clients.

Many of our clients may benefit from deepening their mind/body connection. Of course, this helps with meditation, but it also helps clients learn to relax. Many clients suffer from chronic muscle contraction. When we ask them to relax, they say, “OK, I’m relaxed” but we can tell they are not. They have been in chronic contraction for so long that they don’t know what a relaxed muscles feels like. The explorations on this document will help develop better body awareness. These may also serve as a good starting point for meditation, especially for those who have trouble sitting still or quieting their minds for a more traditional meditation.

Why are chronically contracted muscles such a big deal? Because it causes dysfunctional movement patterns and misalignments that lead to pain.

When we learn to control which parts of the body are moving/still, relaxed/contracted and we tune in to the breath, we are creating mind/body awareness and mindfulness. Use these movement explorations to help with these goals. They are not just physical!

Note: You’ll see this information again in some other places on the portal, such as the Back and Hips, Shoulder and Core workshops. It’s helpful in so many different situations.
