Manipura Chakra Solar Plexus

The third chakra is the Manipura Chakra or the solar chakra/navel chakra. It is situated in the naval region and is the largest of all the other seven chakras, approximately the size of the palm. According to few scholars, the actual solar chakra is at the midpoint between the breast bone and navel and that the navel chakra is different.

Physical manifestation of the chakra

Manipura chakra controls the adrenal glands and the pancreas. It is connected with fire and is considered to be the main base of power. It also controls the respiratory system and the gall bladder, liver, the stomach, spleen and the small intestine. The solar chakra also influences the sympathetic nervous system.

The main color of Manipura chakra is yellow and is visually represented by yellow circle enclosing the red triangles and is enclosed in the 10 lotus petals of blue color. Manipura chakra is related to your relationships with the outside world, your ego, your energy level and transformation.

If you have a balanced chakra, you develop tranquility and internal harmony. You respect the nature, accept and respect your own and others’ emotions. You have a feeling of being responsible, confident, reliable and spontaneous. Additionally, you’ll feel confident about your ability to meet all challenges with a strong wit.

Chakra imbalance

Imbalance in the chakra in the form of excessive energy makes you overtly and overly arrogant, dominating, manipulative, aggressive, stubborn, power hungry and hyperactive. You become extremely ambitious and competitive and try to control everyone around yourself and if cornered tries blame game tactics.

On the other hand if the chakra is blocked then you develop low energy, weak will power and even poor self-esteem. You become passive, unreliable, fearful, and sluggish and have poor self- discipline. You get emotionally and physically cold and suffer with indigestion. You start considering yourself as a victim and start blaming others for it.The physical aspects include digestive disorders, ulcers, pancreatitis, diabetes and problems related to the gall bladder and liver. You are prone to allergies.

Hence it is very important that the Manipura chakra is always balanced and the yoga asanas that help the seeker to balance this chakra are:

• Bhujangasana or the cobra pose helps in improving the posture and strengthening the spine. This helps in better flow of energy in the body.

• Dhanurasana or the bow pose is an all-encompassing pose for many parts of the body.

• Ardha Pada Hastasana or the leg lifts pose helps in the strengthening of the muscles of the thighs, stomach, pelvis and the legs.
Opening of chakras is important aspect of staying healthy holistically. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, physically or emotionally, maybe it is time to visit a yoga practitioner and get the chakras opened. Yoga and meditation can work wonders for your spiritual, physical and emotional balance.
